A new terrorist group, Mamudawa, has attacked communities in Kebbi State, killing four people and displacing residents. The attacks occurred on Sunday and Monday in Gebbe District, Shanga Local Government Area, targeting communities such as Kalkami, Tungar Bori, and Kawara.
The attackers, who emerged from Wawa Forest in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State, set multiple buildings ablire, forcing residents to flee their homes. “They took advantage of the wetland terrain. Parts of these communities were set on fire, and lives were tragically lost,” said SP Bashir Usman, Kebbi State Police Command spokesperson.
The Vice Chairman of Shanga Local Government Area, Adamu Hamza Gebbe, confirmed the incident, noting that such attacks have become recurrent in the area. Residents have taken refuge in Gungu and nearby forests to escape further violence.
The police have been notified, and security personnel are on the ground to restore peace and normalcy in the affected villages.
