President Bola Tinubu has officially commenced his reelection journey ahead of the 2027 general election after the All Progressives Congress presidential nomination and expression of interest forms were obtained on his behalf. The lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency, James Faleke, picked up the forms on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
The APC National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Argungu, formally declared the process open and presented the two forms to Faleke, who also serves as the founder of the Tinubu Support Groups. The forms, valued at N100 million, were paid for by Faleke on behalf of the President, formally signalling Tinubu’s intention to seek a second term in office.
Faleke’s action came after several support groups had earlier indicated interest in purchasing the forms for the President. Notably, the Take Action Campaign for Tinubu had written to the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, in early April 2026, notifying the party of its intention to buy the forms. The group described the move as reflecting growing support for the President’s second-term bid and confidence in his administration’s policy direction.
Before the formal procurement of the forms, President Tinubu had held his inaugural meeting with leaders and coordinators of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, the main vehicle for his 2027 reelection campaign. The meeting took place on April 16, 2026, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Addressing the ambassadors, the President said, “You represent the conscience of a nation that wants to break the shackles of poverty and hopelessness. This is a lifetime opportunity to break the shackles of poverty and ignorance”.
President Tinubu further emphasised his commitment to democratic principles, stating, “We cannot submit to disobedience of a lawful order of the court; we must embrace the judiciary, whether it favours us or not. We submit to this principle of democracy, separation of powers, and understanding of the dynamics of it, and the nationhood that Nigeria is, that we must build one country. That’s what Renewed Hope is all about. You must give them that hope. There’s no other path for us to attain national greatness other than to build one common vision for the progress and prosperity of our people. That is what we must do”.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has scheduled the Presidential and National Assembly elections for Saturday, January 16, 2027, while governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections will hold on Saturday, February 6, 2027. INEC also announced that party primaries, including the resolution of related disputes, will run from April 23, 2026, to May 30, 2026.
Campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections are set to begin on August 19, 2026, while those for governorship and state assembly elections will commence on September 9, 2026. The formal procurement of the nomination forms makes President Tinubu the first aspirant to obtain the APC presidential ticket for the 2027 election.
Reacting to the development, Governor Hope Uzodinma, who serves as the Director-General of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, stated, “Our purpose is to brief Mr President on how far we have gone with this national assignment, to present the substance of the work already done, and to reaffirm that the structure he graciously created is not only alive but active, coordinated, and already creating measurable political and civic dividends across the nation”.
