Afrobeats superstar Davido has been appointed Head of Youth Mobilisation for Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s 2026 re-election campaign council, bringing his star power to the Accord Party’s push ahead of the August 8 governorship election.

The singer announced the role on his X account on Tuesday, confirming that he was appointed by his uncle, Governor Adeleke, who is the Accord Party’s flag bearer. “I have been appointed by the Governor of OSUN STATE @AAdeleke_01 and flag bearer of the ACCORD PARTY as HEAD YOUTH MOBILIZATION OF CAMPAIGN COUNCIL! We look forward to a smooth campaign and your re-election your Excellency! 4+4,” Davido wrote.

The appointment comes as political activities intensify in Osun, with Adeleke seeking a second term after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party for the Accord Party late last year. The party has already cleared him as its sole governorship candidate.

Davido said he is looking forward to working with the campaign team to ensure a smooth process. The role places him in charge of coordinating youth engagement strategies, supporting grassroots outreach and amplifying campaign messages to younger voters through both physical and digital platforms.

This is not Davido’s first political involvement in Osun. He played an active role during Adeleke’s 2022 governorship campaign and has remained a vocal supporter. In December 2025, he formally joined the Accord Party and collected his membership card in Osogbo. Earlier in 2025, he was named Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a position focused on attracting investment into sports development in the state.

Campaign officials said the decision to bring Davido on board is aimed at strengthening engagement with young voters and increasing political participation across the state. Political observers note that the move reflects the growing influence of celebrity figures in Nigerian electoral politics, particularly in mobilising youth turnout.

Davido’s latest appointment adds to his expanding footprint in Osun politics. The “Timeless” hitmaker has consistently backed his uncle’s administration, including celebrating the completion of a state building project in 2024.

Governor Adeleke has also announced a free “Get Out to Vote” concert in Osogbo on Friday, April 24, featuring performers including B-Red, Peruzzi, CDQ and Shina Peters. Describing it as inclusive and non-partisan, Adeleke said, “This Get Out to Vote Concert is for everyone in Osun State, Accord, ADC, APC, LP, PDP, no political divide, just pure Osun energy!”
