The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Osun State Broadcasting Corporation Chapel, on Sunday, 27th September, 2026, commenced its 2026 Press Week celebrations with a Thanksgiving Service held at the Cherubim and Seraphim Church, Egbatedo, Osogbo.
The service, which marked the official opening of the week-long programme, drew together journalists, union leaders, government officials, and well-wishers in an atmosphere of praise, gratitude, and fellowship.
Delivering the exhortation, the guest speaker, Supt. Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, Special Adviser to the Osun State Governor on Security and Local Matters and Commander of the Amotekun Corps in Osun State, charged journalists to see their profession as a tool for societal transformation.
Speaking on the theme Celebration as a Response to Grace, Dr. Omoyele drew his message from the biblical story of Hannah at Shiloh, who, despite being sorrowful while others celebrated, prayed to God for a child and returned the following year to give thanks after receiving her blessing. His text was taken from 1 Samuel 1:1-28, with emphasis on 1 Samuel 1:3-7 for Hannah’s experience at Shiloh and 1 Samuel 1:24-28 for her return to give thanks.
He noted that celebration is a response to grace enjoyed in all things and that thanksgiving should follow answered prayers, as demonstrated by Hannah. He urged journalists to appreciate God by using their pen and profession to better society and cautioned against selfishness and other vices.
“Celebration was a response of Grace enjoyed in all things,” Dr. Omoyele said. “Use your Pen and profession to better the society.”
He charged the Chapel to be agents of positive change in the society, stressing that the media has a responsibility to promote unity, peace and development through responsible reporting.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the NUJ OSBC Chapel, Comrade Olawumi Olaniyi, said the service was organised to officially kick off activities for the 2026 Press Week and to return all glory and honour to God for His faithfulness, protection and guidance.
“Today’s service is a special opportunity to return all glory and honour to God for His faithfulness, protection and guidance over us, our Chapel, our union and the entire OSBC family,” Comrade Olaniyi said.
He expressed gratitude to God for the privilege to witness another Press Week in peace and unity and specially appreciated the Press Week sponsor, Commander Isaac Adekunle Omoyele, for his generous support and commitment towards making the programme possible.
